Take 2

I wanted another try at the My Favorite Things sketch. After posting yesterday, I wished I had done some sewing. I was not taking it apart.

DH doesn't understand my need to pull out stitching errors on my cross-stitch projects so not taking a card apart is a rather new concept for me. But adhesive isn't quite as forgiving as thread!

Paper: Neenah Solar White; Cosmo Cricket 6x6 Pixie-Licious; Hero Hues layering paper Celadon and Poppy
Dies: Spellbinders S4-110 Classic Ovals Large and S4-111 Classic Scalloped Ovals Large
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black
Copics: 0, V12, V15, V17, R11, R81, R83, R85, YR14, YR15, YR21, BG72, E00, E21, E50, E53, E55, E57, E59, C5
Buttons are from my stash and have Weeks Dye Works overdyed floss Carrot.

Now to make more cards. But I'll wait until tomorrow. Looking at the clock, it is tomorrow. DH is gone on business so I get to stay up late. He guessed I wouldn't go to bed until 2:30. I told him I'd be in bed before then. I'll be pushing it as I want to do another load of laundry. Yes, I would rather be up until 2:30 then get up at 6:00. Silly me.

Better Get Better

Checking my email, I saw My Favorite Things had posted a new sketch. After making cards the last two weeks for the online Clean & Simple class, I thought I could handle this. I was really hoping to keep up and make a card every week with MFT sketches. I am now three weeks behind. I think I will be behind for the rest of my life. I'm already late on Christmas 2012.

I did something novel with this card. I picked the paper before I colored the image. It's amazing how much simpler that made putting the card together!

Now to make more get well cards. It seems like everyone is getting sick this winter.

Paper: Echo Park 6x6 Victoria Gardens; Hero Hues Layering Paper Daffodil and Grenadine; Neenah Solar White
Stamps: My Favorite Things Pure Innocence Better Get Better

Happy Birthday, Dustin Pike

I have 14 minutes to get this card linked!

I read Dustin's blog and wanted to make a card. I didn't have a lot of time, as you can tell by the rush to get this linked!  :)

Okay, I just got back from linking with 8 minutes left.

I like this image of Dudley. He was printed on Neenah card stock and colored with my Copics, twice, so he could sit in front of his presents. I always color the back one because you can see the image from the side. The confetti was colored with Spica pens so they would shine, which you can't tell in the photo! The Happy Birthday is Hero Arts CL340 Birthday Sayings stamped with Hero Arts Shadow Ink AF209 green Hills.

I used Hero Hues layering paper, Eggshell and Grass. The Cuttlebug Mesh embossing folder reminds me of alligator skin which I think would be similar to what Dudley's would look like. My children may think I am old enough to know, but really, I'm not. Finally, I used some DMC Pearl Cotton for the balloon string.

I hope Dustin had a happy 12th birthday!

White Is A Color

Or so I am told in the Clean & Simple class. To me, this card has a lot of white. To others, maybe not.

Paper: Hero Hues Celadon and Snow, Neenah Brilliant White
Ink: Memento
Stamps: Art Impressions Doctor Bill and Wallets Out
Copics: R11, G12, G24, B000, B00, B02, E00, E13, E15, E21, E50, C1

Our minute amount of snow Sunday turned into major problems farther north. Yesterday and today we've had major rain with flooding problems. The forecast is for more rain.

As I look out the window, the water is rising in the fields. Last night, in town, a car was swept into a creek. The father and a son were rescued but the mother and baby were not. My heart hurts for the families involved. The father was released from the hospital, the son life flighted to Portland.

One would expect Oregonians to know about rain and rising water. However, sometimes, the unexpected happens.

What Day Am I On?

I told myself I wouldn't look at the next class until I made a card for the previous one. I failed. I watched Days 6, 7 & 8 today. Now I'm not sure which class this card is for. I just needed a baby card.

I think it works with Day 6, Simple Embellishments. Now on to white...

Paper: Hero Hues Carnation
Stamps: Studio G
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black
Pens: Copics RV42, E13, Blender; Signo Broad White
Other: Sizzix Dots embossing folder; Flower, button from my stash; DMC White floss

Embossing Powder Is Not My Friend

I fought with it years ago and decided it wasn't worth the effort and pain. Jennifer McGuire in the Clean and Simple class used it on her sample. I bit the bullet and tried. I have too many casualities to count. I want to move on to the next lesson so I'm sharing the best of them.

Paper: Watercolor paper, Core'dinations Tim Holtz & Ranger Distress Collection Milled Lavender
Ink: Distress Ink Milled Lavender
Glimmer Mist: Tattered Angels Iridescent Gold
Stamps: Hero Arts CL265 Adorable Baby Girl, My Favorite Things My How You've Grown

It's Beyond Me

Day 4 of the Clean & Simple class is throwing me for a loop: 1 Stamp, 3 Ways with Kristina. I finally gave up and started cutting stamps apart! Kristina did suggest using one small stamp and stamping it over and over for a background.

I used stamps from six different sets for the background. Does that count as using them in a different way? Now to see if I can put them back together and use them as they were originally intended. :)

I really do need to work on my photography skills. However, that is going to have to wait until I get at least one card done for each day of this class! :D

Paper: Hero Hues Powder, Neenah Card Stock
Ink: Hero Arts Shadow Soft Pool; Memento Tuxedo Black, VersaMark Watermark Stamp

It Snowed!

Keep in mind I live in the Willamette Valley of Oregon. Getting snow is something to celebrate. Unless someone driving on the 1/8 inch we had doesn't know what they are doing and hits the oak tree in our yard.

Yes, he slid, spun and hit the tree. In rains in Oregon. If it snows, the road is usually wet when the snow starts. Wet pavement, wet snow, driving faster than you should, spin and end up having a not so good day.

Years ago a branch fell off the tree. As it landed more in the ditch then the flowerbed, we left it there. It was a conversation piece. It looked like a dinosaur. People stopped and took pictures of it. I thought that was weird but then I'd lived with it for years. My dinosaur branch is no more.

I was staying in the house where it was warm. The driver's parents arrived. I saw DH reach for his wallet. I knew he was looking for his business card and his wallet was in the house. I grabbed a couple of cards and headed out. The kid's mom was saying 'He hit the landmark!' See, I told you it was a conversation piece. She then proceeded to say it had been there since she was a kid. Well, I don't think it had been there THAT long.

I had to take pictures showing the demise of the last dinosaur.

These were taken about 45 minutes after the accident. See how much snow we had left. I wasn't kidding when I said we had 1/8 of an inch! (The dinosaur remains are on the right, in case you were wondering.)

I guess he didn't hit the tree. The branch took the hit and kept him from hitting the tree. Knowing the tree, I think God was protecting the driver. Had he hit the tree, I have a feeling the tree would have struck back and landed on his car.

Jennifer is an Enabler

I went through the supply list for the Clean & Simple card making class and decided I didn't need to have everything on the list and to use what I have. Good idea, but I'm failing. I NEED the Memory Box Maribelle Butterfly Die. Will DH notice the multiple purchases from Simon Says Stamp?

As I don't have the dies Jennifer used, I went with Julie's sample.

Paper: Hero Hues Poppy (folded with the color on the inside); Neenah card stock
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black
Stamps: Hero Arts 657773 Antique Flowers & Butterflies
Pens: Copic YR19, E27
Die: Memory Box Butterfly Delights
Ribbon: From my stash
Sentiment: Create with TLC

On to day 4...

Day 2 on Day 5

I managed to get a card done for the first day of the Clean & Simple class on, yes, the first day. However, the week has been filled beyond belief. I won't let myself look at Day 3, 4 or 5 until I get a card done for each day. Talk about torturing myself.

Ink: Distress Ink Tumbled Glass; Memento Tuxedo Black
Stamps: Hero Arts 657773 Antique Flowers and Butterlies; CL139 Birthday Messages
Pens: Copics RV000, YR31, Y04; YG23; YR15
Die: Memory Box Primo Labels
Other: Judikins Eclipse Art Masking Tape; Post It Notes; Ink Blending Tool

I really did get this made on Friday. It took two more days to take a photo and post it!

Clean & Simple

I received my first email for the Clean & Simple class taught by Jennifer McGuire, Kristina Werner and Julie Ebersole. I then proceeded to make a card. A miracle! :) A card that didn't take two weeks.

I used Hero Hues Latte layering paper and Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink on Cornish Heritage Farms' License Plates Backgrounder. The Happy Birthday and musical notes are from Hero Arts Birthday Sayings. They were embossed with Zing White and the dash lines are my Signo pen.

I now have a masculine birthday card and I didn't sweat over it. Thank you, Kristina!
